LIBURNETIK took part in the International Conference “Shaping Democratic Renewal: Civic Space and the Path to a New Democratic Pact for Europe”, organised by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
The conference took place in a European context marked by growing challenges to democracy, civic participation, and the functioning of civil society. Its objective was to create a structured space for dialogue among European institutions, member states, civil society organisations, human rights experts, and academic actors, in order to analyse the current state of civic space and contribute to the development of a New Democratic Pact for Europe.
Over the course of the two-day programme, participants discussed the state of civic space in Europe, legislative and regulatory trends affecting civil society, mechanisms for monitoring and protecting civic space, and the impact of the digital civic space on democracy. Particular attention was given to the need for inclusive, human-rights-based policies that guarantee freedom of association, expression, and civic participation.
Within this framework, LIBURNETIK’s participation represents a concrete commitment to actively engaging in European dialogue on democracy and civil society, while contributing perspectives and experience from Albania and the Western Balkans region.
This conference provided an important platform for reflection and cooperation on the challenges currently facing civic space in Europe. For LIBURNETIK, participation in this forum is essential to strengthening the role of civil society and further aligning with European standards of democracy and human rights.
